In the event of any emergency, it's always best to be prepared.  Of course, everyone hopes that they will never be in a set of circumstances where they may need to flee from an attacker, but should that scenario occur, it's a good idea to carry something like OC Spray (pepper spray/gel).  A small investment now could save your life later.

With daylight abductions increasing, consider these options in the event of an emergency. These tips are for yourself, your family, and your friends. After reading these 9 crucial tips, pass them on to someone you care about. There’s no such thing as being “overly cautious” when it comes to safety.

1. A Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, don’t hesitate!

2. If a robber demands your wallet or purse, do not hand it to him. Toss it away from your person. He is probably more interested in your belongings than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. Use this distraction to start running in the opposite direction.

3. If you are abducted and thrown into a car trunk, kick out the tail lights, pass your arm through the hole and start waving. The driver won’t see you, but everyone else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women tend to enter their cars and sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc.) If a predator is watching, this provides time for him to gain access to your car. If a predetor does gain access to your car gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking your car. Your Air Bag will save you. As soon as the car crashes, bail out and run to a well light/populated area.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot or parking garage:
A) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat
B) If you are parked next to a large vehicle, enter your car from the passenger door. Commonly, an attacker will pull a victim into their vehicle while the victim is trying to gain access to their vehicle.
C) Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are an unsafe place to be alone due to their isolation and many blindspots.)

7. If a predator has a gun, but does not have you restrained, run in a zig-zag pattern. The likelihood of hitting a moving target is 4/100; it most likely will not be a vital organ.

8. Avoid sympathizing with the criminal at all costs; showing compassion can incite violence. For instance, serial killer Ted Bundy was an intelligent, handsome man who knowingly played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked “for help” into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which became an opportunity for abduction.

9. This scenario may seem absurd, but in one instance a woman phoned the police after hearing what appeared to be an infant crying outsider her door. The police responded by telling her not to open the door, despite her concerns that the child was in danger. The policeman informed her that there was already an unit en route and to stay away from the door. He continued to say that the department theorized it was pre-recorded and used to coax women out of their homes during the night. His suspicion was unverified, but the policeman went on to state that she was not the first woman to call and report the noises that evening. It is important to err on the side of caution under any strange circumstance.
