The ESS Profile NVG were the authorized goggle issued by the U.S. military and will serve you well.
Note: It is a personal preference to remove the top foam covering the vent holes allowing the goggles to be more breathable and help prevent fogging. The foam also tends to easily tear and is common in used goggles. Please note that goggles may have ripped or missing foam for this reason.

Military Optics Grading Guide
Genuine military surplus is field-tested, rugged, and built to survive. Because this gear has been issued to soldiers, condition varies. We use the following grades to ensure you get exactly what you need.
Grade 1: Like New
Condition: Like-new or "new old stock."
- Lenses: Crystal clear; may have negligible storage marks.
- Frames: Tight and pristine.
- Best For: Those who want peak performance and maximum visual clarity.
Grade 2: Used
Condition: Standard surplus with plenty of life left.
- Lenses: Functional but will show minor surface scratches from normal use.
- Frames: May show scuffs or light wear.
- Best For: Reliable, everyday eye protection at a surplus price.
Grade 3: Excessive use
Condition: Heavy use; rougher physical shape.
- Lenses: Significant scratches and heavy scuffing.
- Frames: Likely stained or heavily worn.
- Best For: CIF turn-ins, spare parts, or one-time use in high-grit environments.
