The rounded blade is designed so that it will not bind when removing it from a cut and the pick is wicked strong to start a hole in just about anything.  From chopping wood, cutting through metal, and hacking away at obstacles, the SP16 SPAX delivers. 

The Special Axe was originally adopted by U.S. Military in WWII as an emergency axe for pilots due to its size and ability.  It later became adapted as an aide in firefighting and emergency rescue. The center hole was made to fit fire hydrants or shutting off gas valves. Don't worry about losing it in the heat of the action - there's a hole in the butt cap for attaching a lanyard.
