Adventure Checklist

Here at Army Navy Outdoors, we fully encourage people to embrace their sense of adventure. The world has a lot to offer for those willing to get out and look for it. That being said, going off unprepared for any adventure can lead to less than favorable (sometimes catastrophic) circumstances. If you’re thinking of testing your mettle against Mother Nature, it’s crucial to be conscious of your needs. Ask yourself a few questions before you head out: How much food/water do I need to take with me …

Affordable Body Armor

Bullet Safe Vest and PlatesHere at ANO we have started carrying body armor from a rather new company called Bullet Safe. They have been around for a few years now and their approach to making and marketing body armor is different from your typical armor distributor. Emergency Preparedness Water

Emergency Preparedness Water For emergency preparedness having a water plan is vital and something to think about before hand. Even if you are not preparing for the long term having water, food and shelter for 2 weeks is essential for every family in an emergency. Bug in or Bug out what will you do? We have said many times that during a storm most supper markets only have a 2 week supply for their area and trucking in water may not be an option in all situations. Never rely on anythin …

Gettin' Dirty for a Good Cause

As the official outfitter for the Jax MS Mud Run for the second year in a row, we attended the event Saturday with a single mission in mind: to talk to folks we outfitted and ask, "What worked? What didn't? What can we do better for next year?"Holy Blisters! There were alot of 'em out there...however, once we talked to people with them we quickly learned that they fell into 1 of 2 categories: 1) They didn't break in their boots, or tried to the day before the race; 2) They wore cheap …

MUD RUN 2011

Army Navy Outdoors is happy to once again be the Official Jacksonville Mud Run Outfitter. We are not just the outfitter but we also run the race so we know how to help. Ask our staff for tips but here are some ideas. It is fun to look cool but on mile 3 you want to really just be comfortable! The fist thing you do is get dirty, really muddy. Withing the fist couple hundred yards you are soaked and that cool looking outfit is now a mess anyway.1. Boots, Boots, Boots and Socks …

Defense Sprays: Just shoot ‘em?

Our store sells all kinds of sprays and stun guns and knives and batons, all of which are in some way effective forms of personal defense. But as I go down that list of “tools”, I am forced to ask myself where I stand if grounded in reality. A stun gun is effective, but is a battery powered device, which makes it subject to failure. Dead batteries are the antithesis of serendipity. “Taser”, the gazillion-volt law enforcement wonder that makes attackers dance and wail like a baby …

Army Combat Uniform

A new Army Combat Uniform and gear is now being issued to soldiers deploying to Afghanistan. The new uniform is the Army Combat Uniform style made in MULTICAM and has about a dozen changes or improvements and also include a new boot that is more of a hiking boot then a combat boot. The new uniform for in theater personnel only is called OCP (Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern). The fist introduction was to roughly 3,600 Iowa National Guard soldiers. Each soldier is receivi …

Why Keep Emergency Supplies?

You are not a person who believes in doomsday, so why bother keeping supplies?Over the past year or more we have seen a very noticeable increase in every day people coming into our store; Army Navy Outdoors that are more willing to tell us they are buying emergency supplies to be prepared for, well just anything. In the past people would not want to say why they were making purchases of emergency or bug out bags and felt If they did, they would appear to be a extremist or doom and gloom. M …

Here in our weekly blog, we usually try to keep it to product reviews and events that our customers may be interested in---we try not to write about ourselves. However, this calls for something special. Many of our customers may not know it, but the 20th anniversary of our Jacksonville location is just around the corner. Furthermore, our 3 other locations have been serving south Florida for over 40 years. Just the other day I was helping a customer that commented to me that our st …
