The Army issue Multicam 3 Day Assault Backpack is a great size to use for an everyday field pack.  It was designed to be a standard issue infantry pack used on short deployments that can be attached to the larger main MOLLE II ruck pack for longer haul use. The assault pack has plenty of space with a main large pocket, zippered front cargo pocket, and a small utility pocket with Velcro closure for smaller items. There is also a slot for a radio antenna or hydration pack tube making it user friendly for the outdoors. The back pad is made to accept a stiffener to help support heavy loads and is easily removable when not needed. Made with very durable denier nylon to be both water and abrasion resistant this pack has certainly been proven to hold up to field use.  The Army issue 3-day assault pack makes a great everyday size for travel, gym, or a bag to beat up on in the outdoors.
