The 1300XT is built to be like the GI MRE. It’s packed with about 1,300 calories per meal on average, with the same components and similar menus. The pouches are durable brown for combat, same as GI to help block UV and keep the weather out. The difference is they’re made for civilians, so every bag has a nutrition label and a pack date on it.
They also carry a 5-year inspection date from the day they were made, which is longer than the 3 years for most MRE and is rated for at 80°F. That’s when you should check them, not when they go bad. Keep them somewhere cool and they’ll usually be good to eat long after that.

How long do they last?
1300XT MREs have an inspection shelf-life of up to 5 years. After such time the meals are subject to inspection and may still be good to eat. They are no longer guaranteed to maintain nutritional value and taste but will not go bad for a long time after. We find that MRE's are usually good to eat much longer if stored property.
