A great hunting and outdoor jacket. Made in the USA and real issue.
The PCU Level 7 was built as the top layer of the Protective Combat Uniform, the system Special Forces (SOCOM) uses. Rated to work down around -50F when you're correctly layered under it. You will notice the comfortable loft insulation, silicone-treated durable shell, and a full cut that goes over everything else you own. Surprisingly packable and light for how warm it is.
It gets confused with the Army's ECWCS Gen III Level 7 constantly. The PCU runs a darker color and adds a removable zip-off hood, elbow patches, and a longer tail in the back to cover your waist. The inside mesh pocket sits low near the hem instead of up on the chest, which makes it a lot easier to actually use. No name tape velcro either. The guys issued these weren't wearing them.
The shell sheds water and cuts wind. It's not a rain shell. Put a hard shell over it if you're going to be out in real weather.
Size note: cut to layer over the rest of the PCU stack. It runs big. Most people size down one for normal wear.
